❤️ of the Matter:
It's a mindset that harbors independence rather than a reliance on God.
The BIG 📸:
The American dream is defined as a life of personal happiness and material comfort traditionally sought by individuals in the U.S. There’s nothing wrong with reaping the benefits of hard work.
The danger is when this becomes our primary pursuit, and we foster a belief that if we can only get this next deal to go through, we’ll be set for life. And what does it mean to be set for life?
More money than we can count? Are we ever set for life outside of Christ Jesus? At the heart of it lies independence and the risk of no longer depending on God for our daily bread.
The 🍞 of Life:
Give us today our daily bread. - Matthew 6:11
For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. - 1 Timothy 6:10
“Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”
Then he told them a story: “A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops. He said to himself, ‘What should I do? I don’t have room for all my crops.’ Then he said, ‘I know! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I’ll have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods. And I’ll sit back and say to myself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”’ “
But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’
“Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” - Luke 12:15-21
Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. - 1 Timothy 6:17
