The BIG 📸:
Jesus, knowing that his time on Earth is coming to an end, prayed for his disciples and all believers, present and future.
He referred to the disciples as those given to him by the Father, emphasizing that they always belonged to him. They had believed and accepted the message that Jesus brought into the world through the Father's grace.
It is interesting and perhaps alarming that Jesus specifically stated that he did not pray for the world but for those who belong to God. The entire world is under the control of the evil one.
Therefore, Jesus prayed for the imperishable, not for what is perishable. The scriptures discuss the world's end, including the coming wrath and judgment, before the new heavens and Earth materialize.
In essence, Jesus prayed for those who live by God's word, which makes them imperishable. We do not belong to the world, just as Christ did not belong to it. Jesus prayed for our protection, holiness, and guidance by the truth, which is the word of God.
He prayed for us to be with him and witness the glory given to him by the Father through love before the creation of the world.
The 🍞 of Life:
“I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. - John 17:20-21
“I have revealed you to the ones you gave me from this world. They were always yours. You gave them to me, and they have kept your word. - John 17:6
And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. - Romans 8:30
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets. Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. - Matthew 16:13-17
For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ. Remember what it says “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled.” - Hebrews 3:14-15
Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. - Hebrews 10:23
“My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given me, because they belong to you. All who are mine belong to you, and you have given them to me, so they bring me glory. - John 17:9-10
And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever. - 1 John 2:17
We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one. - 1 John 5:19
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. - Romans 1:18-20
The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers. - 1 Peter 4:7
For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word that was preached to you. - 1 Peter 1:23-25
The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment. Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live, looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along. On that day, he will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames. But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness. - 2 Peter 3:9-13
I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. They do not belong to this world any more than I do. Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. - John 17:14-17
Father, I want these whom you have given me to be with me where I am. Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me even before the world began! - John 17:24
